Science lessons are happening all over our house these days. Last week we were investigating around the yard only to discover that something had completely cleared the leaves off the one side of our oak tree. We looked all over to see what it was. We knew it was some kind of caterpillar, but couldn't seem to locate the culprit. Dylan spotted it after a little while. IT WAS HUGE and lime green. About 3 inces long and about an inch wide. He was a fatty!!! We decided to kidnap him from damaging our tree. We put him in a bowl and watched him every day. We had to add leaves every morning and dump out what we thought was "caterpillar poop". He sure did "poop" a lot. Anyways, I read the boys the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" several times. We talked about how eventually he will make a cacoon and hide away. Well, Friday was the day. They were so excited. Today we had some free time because it's rainy outside to look him up on the internet. We found a site that explained the whole process from egg to moth. Dylan thought it was so cool. Jordan just kept pointing at the screen telling us that he'd seen one of those before. And Gavin just sat on my lap drooling (two teeth are coming in). :o) Here's our discovery. I know you'll enjoy how gross, huge, and nasty he is. That's my boys for ya. See if I had girls I'd be missing out on something. Check out the
link.
You better believe I took this through the screen! There is no way I'm getting too close. YUCK! Jordan had his face pushed against the screen for so long watching him though that his face was dirty!!! Boys will be boys.
