A little background info...the winds yesterday were about 40 miles per hour and there was a NO BURNING, red flag warning for the day.
We were on our way home from church about 1:30pm and noticed a HUGE smoke cloud rising from somewhere. When we were far away, it looked like it was nowhere near home. As we got closer, we kept thinking that it was in neighboring areas. When we turned on our street to find the road closed just 1.5 miles from our neighborhood, we began to become a little worried. I jumped out to talk to the police officer to find out how far down the road the fire was burning. We were informed that something had caused a brush fire and burned 2 buildings and then then wind was helping it travel through the woods. John decided to walk through the road block with a neighbor who was also concerned about his dog. The smoke was very thick and dark. Thank goodness when he called me, he was on the other side of the chaos. It was clear of our neighborhood as long as the wind did not shift. They ended up killing it down with a helicopter dropping water. Dylan LOVED watching it!!! What a day though. We can't imagine where we would go if our house burned down. It's insured so our things can be replaced, but thank the Lord they won't have to be.
To top it off, on our way home from Bible Study last night, we came across another fire that probably started from a cigarette being thrown out the window. Again, the wind was brutal so it was just spreading along the side of the road. I called 911 and more firemen were dispatched. Our firemen got their workout yesterday for sure!!!
Here is a picture of the smoke from our driveway.
